Anyone in Rochester or La Crosse Area have any free frags??

I am just starting my first reef tank. This is a project I am doing for my daughter. I have 40lbs of live rock in a 30gal tank. Now all I need is some coral and later Seahorses. Today 7/16/03 it turns out that I will be going down to LaCrosse for work. i am leaving the twin cities shortly after 2pm and arriving in LaCrosse around 5pm. I noticed that you guys often have free frags available. Also if you have any other equipment available please let me know...at this point I had a protien skimmer lined up but it fell through so I need one asap! If anyone has a good deal on a skimmer please let me know. You can call my cell today or anyday really at 651-398-9846. If long distance is a problem I can call you right back from my phone if you like. So anyway If anyone has anything for me today please call...
Thanks in advance!

What is you setup like(Lighting, flow, ...)? Do you have other experence in the hobby? What type of frags are you looking for? I assume that if you plan on seahorses then SPS would be out because of conflicting flow requirements.

I'm actually back home now but I may be headed back down again in the near future. I plan on having soft corals only... not sure exactly what at this point. I'm kinda just going by compatibility with the Seahorse tank and also by the lighting that I have. My lighting also limits me from SPS. I have 2x96 coralife pc flo. Water flow is a little heavy on the left side of my tank were the overflow return is and a powerhead that has a sponge filter on it (to collect any large waste) for more water flow for corals. The exhaust for that power head is pointing to the left wall of the tank for good surface agitation and minimize heavy flow on the other side of the tank. The right side of the tank only has the flow that the overflow draws. This was done on purpose so that corals requiring a little higher flow would go on the left side of the tank, and if the Seahorses needed to seek refuge of slower moving water they could reside on the right side of the tank. Hope this makes sense... I am always open to suggestions...

Ohh,

to answer the other part of the question, the only other experience I have in the hobby is carring for 2 red bellied piranhas and many other various freshwater fish and other critters. I have been very successful in doing that But I do not have any prior experience in the Marine world (or reef obviously.) So far I feel I am doing a fairly good job (no major mistakes yet.) I have 2 blue damsels 4 blue legged hermits 1 brittle starfish and NO fatalities!!! I have had this tank running for about 4 months now (I think.) Also I was growing coraline algea on 2 pieces of dead coral (petco bought wrapped in plastice wrap, not to be confused with marine base rock) like it was going out of style... so I am assuming I'm doing well so far.

The only soft corals I have to give away are Xenia. Most of what I normally accidently produce are SPS frags. Are you interested in leather frags? I have a big one that is starting to shed some babies or a small one we can pull off a rock. Otherwise I would be willing to try to grow some mushrooms/buttons/polyps onto a small rock if you are interested, you provide the rock you want them grown onto of course

Best of luck with your reef.

Sounds great... I will take pretty much any softie to get me started with some nice scenery. I have plenty of Live rock in my tank as of right now. I dont have to actually have to bring some with me when I come down do I? I'll let you know when I can come down.

If you have dry coral rock that would work fine too. Also think golf ball size.

Trodder, if you're going to be in the twin cities area, I have plenty of purple/blue mushrooms I can give you. At least 4 or 5. These would be good, but you'll need to attach them to a rock. The largest one is about 4 inches in diameter when fully inflated, the smaller ones about an inch. Let me know, Mike
