Will Entertain Ideas

Ok, so my wife let me spend some money on the tank.
Here's what I need to have done (Goal). Build a sump from plexi that includes my Eheim filter, CPR BakPak skimmer, and that's it. I just need ideas of the size of the sump (going beneath a 54 corner), how to blend filter and skimmer in sump and since the tank doesn't have an overflow, i need to get the water out and back in. if anybody has a diagram, or can draw simple plans, that would be excellent.

what size tank do you have? as for a sump i would just get the biggest glass tank you can fit in the stand. glass tanks are cheaper than the acrylic needed to make a tank of equal size. it is easy to find 10g tanks for $10. that way you can just hand the skimmer over the side of the sump tank. you can also just run the plumbing from the cannister into this tank also.

that way the only thing you would need to buy is an overflow. getting the tank drilled would be better, but a lot more hastle.

I would drill the tan for an overflow- best thing that you will ever do. For a sump- find a rubber maid tote that will fit under the stand - the biggest one that you can put in there and still get your head in to see and that will fit nice and cozy.

Basically from your "drilled over flow" you will have a 1" -1.5" line to the sump, this will empty into a filter sock, then you will need a pump to return the water back to the tank, something like a mag 7 or so. You won't need the Ehiem filter for a reef but if you polish with carbon this will work. You can hang the skimmer off the side of the tote and take the water from the "sump" and return it to another "tote" in the sump and this is where your return pump can sit in. If you understand where the water needs to be and what has to be done to it - the sump will be easy. If you do use the tote's just make sure that it doesnot have those little round feet on the bottom of the tote - it'll crush and leak.

good luck
