Which drillbit shoud I use to drill Ca. Reactor Lid?

Hi Guys

My Ca. Reactor didnt come with a probe holder to measure reaction chamber pH, so I bought a UNIseal that will hold the standard probe, but I need to drill a 1inch hole into the acrylic lid.

I asked the guy at home depot which drillbit to use, and he gave me this 1inch Rigid holesaw bit but the teeth on that thing just dont look like they will leave a clean cut.

What would you guys recommend I used to make this hole?

thanks
G

The hole-saw looks mean; but using some soapy water and going slow will give you a perfect hole.

Slow is the key.

befor ya drill i would get a small piece of acrylic from home depot and do a test run with that would rather mess up a piece of scrap than part of the system

honestly, for that size of hole it won't matter which bit you use. the important thing is that you keep the area your drilling wet/submersed while you drill to keep from melting the acrylic. if your doing it on a tabletop just use some plumbers putty to make a little bowl arount the spot your gonna drill. then fill it with water and have someone keep it filled as your drill. piece o' cake. I agree that you should test on another piece first.

ok, on the other side I was told not to use a uni so scratch that idea... I do have an inline probeholder I bought that is 1/2in threaded. so if i drill a 1/2in hole and then tap it that might be better way to go...or drill hole for a 1/2 slip to thread adapter... glue it to the acrylic, and then thread the probe holder? What do you guys think?

if you have an adapter or fitting you will need to drill a hole the same size as the body of the fitting not including the threads. you will also need to order a tap in order to tap it since 99.9% of most places wont carry the tap you need nor the drill bit either. you will need to check on the hole size that the tap requires.
aquatic eco systems will have everything you need if you cant find it locally.
