Question

Weld On differences

Can Weld On 16 be used to glue 1/4" acrylic together or is it just to seal already bonded sheets?

I put together a 9 gal. fuge with the #16 but now I am not sure if I should have used #3 or #4 .

the differences between the Weld-Ons is in consistancy. the thiner the Weld-On the more exact your cuts need to be. capillary action will pull the cement between the joints fusing them together. if your cuts are not that good than the thicker Weld-Ons are your better choice.

Between 3 and 4, 3 dries a little faster and as mentioned 16 is for gaps, but not more than 1/16". 40 is a 2 part "epoxy" like for better bonds on thicker material

I used thw 16 to glue together my pieces which had been precicion cut at the plastics distributor.

I was just wondering if the 16 will hold up as I heard someone talking about using 3 or 4 to glue and then use 16 to add an extra bead in the corners.

Bottom line is : Will the 16 be ok or will it break apart ??

Take a look at the seams from the other side, are they clear, bubble free? If done right, 16 is not needed for a bead. What did you make, and how tall is it?

There is a method of using straight pins to space the pieces apart before gluing to allow the solvent to "melt the area to be bonded, on both sides at the same time. After about 15 sec's you pull the pins out and just let the "part" sit in the softened area without applying any pressure and making sure that it's perpendicular to the bottom piece. And there is a logical order of assembling, with the piece being added always on top.

I built a 9 gallon sump. 10 wide 12 tall 16 long with two baffles. I bent the bottom part's sides up and then glued the two side pieces on.

Then I added the baffles. I filled it with water and let it sit for 24 hours. It didn't leak so I know it's sealed. I just wasn't sure if what I did will hold up over time.

Sounds like it will hold for ya. Time will tell. Did you use cast or extruded? Cast costs more and is used mainly for any type of "equipmnt" holding saltwater, extruded is less, machines "messier" than cast cause it's softer and in time the joint will fail.
