water sealer inside stand
just wondering if regular thompsons water sealer will work on the inside of the stand in the sump area or if it has to be marine grade stuff???
not sure if i can find marine grade sealer up here in the frozen north but if regular sealer wont work then i guess i have to go on a hunt....

A good primer and paint is easily as good, and a nice white inside the stand makes lighting and seeing what you're doing much more effective.

I have heard of guys using a waterproof or garage sealing paint inside the stand along with using a silicone to seal the corners, if there is a water spill it should be contained inside the stand - well to a point anyways.
Agree with crvz though, a nice white is nice. Clean look and makes things brighter. Definately going to do that on my next stand.

I like the gloss white in the stand, it hides the salt buildup

Something to keep in mind if you do make the bottom of the stand watertight is to keep everything electrical above the highest possible water level. I know someone who found out the hard way that external pumps and a sealed bottom on the stand don't mix.

i havent sealed or anything yet but i do have thompsons multi purpose sealer here.....should i use this? or take it back and just prime/paint the inside?
i will be sealing the inside of the stand to make it water tight.....but once it fill with about 10-15g of water itll run out onto the floor with the way i designed the stand......figured that way if i have a miss hap the stand will contain what the sump cant handle.....butthe sump outa be able to handle plenty with the size i went with.....OVERKILL!!!
all electrical will be up and outa the way......so no worries there......

I agree with Doug. Water seal it, prime it, then paint it a gloss white and then use a glossy Polyurethane over it. The last two stands I built were painted inside and stained outside for the very reasons mentioned. My 90 had a black stand and I couldn't see inside it. So now, every stand I ever own will be painted white on the inside to help me see inside the stand. The polyurethane will stand up to the saltwater. When you buy it, tell them you want it to put on your hardwood floor. Not sure what the difference is but it stands up to wear better and is dang near indestructable.
