are you sure your support boards that support the tank in the stand are straight and not warped?

what size level are you using to test level? do you have a 4' or longer level? is so run it along the support boards in the stand and see if the level stays touching the entire time.

It really doesn't matter if the top of the frame is not level since the top doesn not rest on anything. It's the bottom part that we are concerned about. As far as the shims are concerned, you NEED to find out WHAT is uneven before you do anything. This whole situation does not make any sense to me - either the tank is uneven or the stand is. It is tough for me to give you any more guidance at this point. Is there someone with woodworking experience who can help you?

well, my guess is the stand is twisted. make up some winding sticks and check it out.

(a note on levels, make sure your not useing a masonry level as a straightedge, they are purposly bowed in the middle.)

glass is flat by nature of the manufacturing process, so i think if it were the tank it would be plainly obvious in the joints.

wood on the other hand is not flat or square by nature and even if you start with flat and square stock, if not properly acclimated it can warp and twist and everything else, even after assembly.

Looks great, very nice stand. You said that tank was sitting in your dad's lawn for two years?
