"I got mah sump in a bucket and I dunno what to do with it....sump in a bucket, sump in a bucket..."
So, I've seen DIY threads for sweet, neat acrylic sumps with multi chambers, etc.
I'd like to see examples of sumps that folks have put in buckets. I'm still trying to figure out how, in general, a sump works, as I try and plan my 55g build.
I guess I have the option of building an
acrylic sump, but not everybody is as dextrous when it comes to that sort of intricate work to get acrylic to weld or even to get glass to caulk.
I have seen pictures of folks using, for example, 5g kitchen tubs that would normally be used to washing floors, acting as a sump. In a setup such as that, would the skimmer go IN the bucket or OUT of the bucket?
Do you need to add baffles, or do you just throw a sponge in the bucket somewhere before the return pump?
My current plan is to use a
HOB overflow (or hook pvc over the back into the tank for overflow) and drain down to a wye, half going to the sump, half to a display refugium. The fuge would overflow to the bucket.
The part draining directly to the sump would go into the skimmer, which would rest outside the bucket, with the processed water going into the bucket.
Will a setup like that work?
Would love to see some pictures and basic diagrams of tub-sumps in action!
Mike.
