Check out this site and it will give you more ideas than you can shake a stick at for how to build a new sump.

You can definitely make one out of a glass tank and it may even be cheaper in some cases, especially if you find a used tank somewhere.

Some glass tanks can be drilled without any problems, you just need to make sure it is not tempered glass.

Is your return pump a non-submersible one? If so then someone else will have to help you figure out how to plumb that without any problems. I have always used submersible pumps for the return and run them inside the sump itself.

You can make an acylic tank pretty easily. I decided to make my own so that I could make it the exact size I wanted. I used Meleves website above to help me build it.
Mine cost about $300 in materials. It is 48" x 24". Obviously a smaller sump will cost much less. I used 3/8" thick and I used a solid top that I routered out the hole instead of using strips. There could have been ways to cut cost a little but i wanted it a certain way.
