Question

Sump ????

Ok. So after all I have read i have determined it is time to replace the wet/dry trickle filter with a plain SUMP! Plus I need something larger than what I currently have(water volume). Basically all I want is some form of:
1.) Place for skimmer
2.) Mechanical Filtration
3.) Place for return pump and heater.

Tanks is 110 reef setup.

How about one of these kits. $40 just add tank and glue in fittings. Ignore the light again as I don't plan on growing plants down here!

do you have a specific place you need to place this sump? i would suggest using a Rubbermaid tub if it fits. then you can use as big of one as you want. mechanical filtration is good if it is cleaned on a very regular basis. it should be rinsed every day to be effective.

i like that kit the best. simple yet effective you have the bulkheads to stabilize the tubing.

Yeah unfortunatly it has to fit under my stand. A typical 20 or 29 gallon high tank is about all I have room for. Plus the width is about perfect. Plus isn't it a pain to put baffles in a rbber made container.

When you say you like that one best ? Which one?

Here is my layout so far. I am going to use a 20 Gallon High tank as this is as big as i can get under my stand. should be about 6-7 gallons bigger than what I have now. In the media tray I will put a carbon & filter pad. My skimmer is the Aua C remora Pro. Water exits the side. I could put a piece af acrylic to fall onto the media tray as well.

Questions:
1) How tall should 1,2,3,4 be?
2) Any suggestions on what to change? Comment or Criticism. My first attempt at this.

got it!

are you planning on getting another skimmer? if you do, will you just plan another sump? just trying to make the sump as adaptable as possible. the way you have it now it is designed around the skimmer, not a bad idea at all, just wanted to get all of the info.

the biggest problem i see is that your return pump area is a bit small. this is a concern if you plan on doing somekind of auto-top off system in the sump. the lowest volume of water needs the float sensor.

do not try and force the maximum amount of water in the sump. it is nice to have the added volume, but you want it to be easy to service or you will ignore it. make sure your heater will fit also.

No new skimmer in the plans The AQUA C seems to be fine. I will eventualy upgrade. Anything to increase return volume that makes sense? The sump should cost less than $75 total.
