Stand Ideas

Hi Guys,
My wife and are are in the planning stages for a reef tank in our living room probably between 50-75 gallons. We want to either build the stand or have it built but my wife wants the stand to have a tilt (not the tank, that of course will be straight) and a lip so that if the tank does leak it would run into the base and won't ruin our hardwood floors. Since we don't even have the tank yet, this is all theoretical at the moment. Do you guys have any suggestions on the feasability?

I have seen a few stands constructed with a "tray" at the base. One guy used a rubber-like material used by contractors to make shower bases in homes. It is formed into a base and concrete is poured over the top. I think he used contact cement to keep it in place.
Another idea is to make your own tray out of acrylic. One large piece for the bottom and four pieces for the walls.
You can also design the stand so that a tray is formed out of wood and make sure all the joints are tight. Put a two part epoxy paint on the wood to make it water tight.

What do you mean by a "tilt"?

Hi guys, thanks for the responses so far.
By a "tilt" I mean a small angle so the water will drain where we want it to, be it one side of the tank or the middle, etc.

are you going to put all of your equipment on a false bottom? so the sump etc will not be on the same tilt as the base. i think i understand what you are getting at. you can add a piece of plywood inside the base of the stand. you could seal it using caulk. it does not need to be that much of a tilt. an inch or so would be plenty.

Yes, exactly all the equipment will be in the sump at the bottom, and that will be sealed like another member mentioned. Will weight distribution be a problem if we "tilted" it like you mentioned, I would assume a small "tilt" and a drainage hole in a corner, so any spillage or leakage would go back down into the sump or base.
