sliding tubing onto barbs?

Hello all,

I'm having a bit of a problem getting some stiff flex pvc to slide onto a barb. I was thinking about heating up a pot of water and dunk the tubing in it hoping it would expand and make it easier to slide over the barb. Is this an OK thing to do? Any other suggestions from the masses? I've got four to do and I can't get the first one on there very far....

thanks!

Chris

We do class three medical devices where we work and use Isopropyl alcohol. Tubing slides right on to plastic pieces then evaporates.

You can get 90% Isoproponyl at your local Sav-On for probably 99 cents.

The flex PVC can be just glued into regular PVC fittings.

That sounds like a better idea than fighting with it

Well off to Home Depot...again.

yeah, but it's got to go into a gate valve that has threaded ends, so in this case it wouldn't work and the cost of the gate valves is too high for me to replace, might though look for some sort of fittings to go male thread to something where I can glue it in. I got the alcohol so I'll give that a try first.

thanks!

Use a slip x thread male end and it'll work. Use teflon tape on the threads to keep it from leaking.

heating and slipping vinyl tubing works well, as will the Isopropyl alcohol, for flex pvc I think the glued fitting is a better route

Yeah, I tried the alcohol, not enough improvement.... So I'm going to Lowe's today to get the slip x thread male ones.

thanks all for the help!

Well, I ended up going with rigid PVC for a variety of reasons. Now I've got a ton of 2" flex PVC to find some use for down the road.

Thanks though...

My theory is: one can never have too much PVC. You will always find a use for it.

I coat the barbs with silicone and then slip the tubing on. The silicone not oinly lubricates the barbs, but it also forms a good seal.
