Siliconing glass

I am making an external overflow and am having problems making a good bubble free seam. Is this for looks or a good seal? I have tried several times to get the seam looking like I think they should but no luck. I have a jig and am only glueing one piece at a time. Anyone have any tips on making a good seam???

Thanks
Brian

if you are talking about a glass to glass seam just put a bead of silicone down push the two pieces together and tape them in place use your finger on the inside to smooth out the silicone let it cure for 24 to 48 hours before you get it wet. if you smooth it on the inside its ok if there is a small bubble in the seam as long as you have a good seal on the inside.

could be how your applying it. Is it in a tube or are you putting it on sometihng else then applying it. Also could be the way you cut the tip on the applicator.

I am using regular tubes and cut the tip at the 1st mark. There are no bubbles when I am done placing the sides in place. They appear during curing.

Thanks
Brian

the glass may be shifting or pulling back apart after you set them this will pull air back into your joint.

Took the glass to my dads, he is the best crafstman I know and he works at a really good price.... If I had known that the seams didnt have to be perfect and that some small bubbles would be ok I would have been done long ago. Wife is complaining now too that I am being too anal and wants it done.

Thanks for the help. Let you all know how it turns out in a day or 3.

Thanks
Brian

no they dont have to be perfect just make sure there is enough silicone to glue the two peices together and that you smooth the silicone on the inside so that you have a water tight seal.
