The 75 is finally and slowly being filled with RO/DI water. Woohoo!
Here's the thing. I've got the 32g brute that I will be using both for a sump and to nicely boost overall water volume while still maintaining a good safety margin.
To start with, I'll be keeping things simple and running submerged pumps connected with flex hose dropped over the edge of the brute. I want to run the sump level at about a third to a half of the bucket full. With that in mind, I was thinking I'd use a pair of plastic milk crates to boost the skimmer height up with. The bottom one would be upside down to provide a stable base around the raised area on the bottom and the top would be right side up and zip-tied to the other one. I will snip away the sides or whatnot on the crates as needed to get the pumps in there.
Two questions:
1) Is there a better/cleaner way to do what I'm looking at? I was thinking that besides securing the skimmer inside one part of the milk crate, I could just lay the media pad across the bottom of that same crate and dump the tank return there.
2) If I wanted to do a low-buck arrangement at the top edge of the brute for the tank's drain line - what would be the best way to do that? I'm guessing a threaded barb with a thread to slip adapter on the inside with copius amounts of silicone to seal things up would do the trick.
Any suggestions or pointers on this would be most gratefully appreciated. For background, I'll be running at least a mag5 and ocean runner 6500 in there, plus the odd maxijet for uv duty.
