Rubbermaid sump

I just did it. I turned a normal rubbermaid container into a sump. It's a 16 gallon container. The way my tank sits, I can't get in behind it to change anything so I set a 5 gallon bucket behind (2 dollars), set the rubbermaid container on top(6 dollars) bought an overflow(30 dollars) got different fittings from hardware store 10 dollars and violaHHHHHHHHH! I have a sump. it's up and running now and working like a charm. Since I had to sit my my sump on a bucket I don't have much room for fall but I don't have much room for leaky fittings either. Now all you see is an overflow box and 2 powerheads. That's it. No skimmer (css125) no heater, nothing. Working well. I'll post pics soon.

You need to better support that container, or it will crack and it won't be pretty. Other than that congrats.

A pcs of (3/4" ply etc) on the bucket, and big enough to support the whole rubbermaid container, will save you headaches at 3am. Eventually the container will crack, and you know it will be at 3am.
