RO/DI Thermostatic Mixing Valve

So I installed my RO/DI the other day, and production is pretty low, due in large part I think to the 55 F incoming feed water (we are on a well). I had thought about coiling several loops of supply tubing in the sump to pre-heat the feedwater and make the membrane, but this increased length would add additional headloss to the system, thus tending to reduce production, and partially negate the intended result.

I then thought of the anti-scald type shower valves, and figured that I should be able to do something similar. A google for Thermal Mixing Valve came up with several hits, but this one is the only I have found so far that is adjustable to as low as 80 F (most of the rest only go down to 30 C (88 F if my math is correct):

Has anyone tried anything like this, and if so, what kind of results did you have? I know this may seem like overkill, but my 75 gpd Typhoon III is currently only giving me about 16 gpd (still breaking in though, manufacturer states it will take ~ 96 hours to reach full flow).

Thanks

Don't know if many would know much about this and your situation.

I'm not that familiar with it myself.

Could possibly putting the RO/DI unit in the well house help? Granted, the problem then would be transporting the water. Is it possible to gravity feed from the well house to a holding tank and drip a top off? Or could the RO water then be pumped to the house?

Anybody else have and ideas? Maybe I'm missing the point.

What is Your pressure going into the RO/DI unit, I think If You are getting only 16 gpd out of a 75 gpd unit and the water id 55 deg. f. you may have a pressure problem. and did You do everything you needed to do when You installed it. That is not a breaking in problem.

Vince,

Inlet pressure is approximately 55-60 psi. That is about as high as I can get it with the pressure adjustment. I am hoping that break-in will increase production to closer to rated output.

55G, look here: http://www.gewater.com/library/tp/700_Six_Pieces.jsp

It has a graph that shows you should be getting about 75% of the rated flow out of your RO with that temperature. Normally flow rates are figured on 45#, I think, so you may have some other problem besides temperature. That article also suggests that when you have lower temperatures you can lower the waste flow rate (thus increasing permeate flow) with a higher flow restrictor. You may be able to get this from the RO/DI manufacturer or you may have to put a valve on the waste line to throttle it back some.

Your pressure is good and the temp is cool but not that bad, like yardboy , I think You are having some other problem and may be able to do the thing that he said and put a valve in thewaste output and force more to the good output. Let us know .
