Refinishing a wood stand

Has anyone ever refinished a wood stand? The stand is currently painted, and I will need to remove the paint and then stain it. I was wondering about the best method for removing the paint (sanding, chemicals, etc). Any help is much appreciated. If anyone around Macon, GA just wants to help one afternoon, I'll provide the steak and the beer!

The best is some kind of paste you put on and cover it with a tape like product, let it sit and peel it all off up to I think 8 layers of paint at a shoot!Don't know the name of it.But I bet you go into Sherman Williams or other paint store could tell you!

I am in the works of refinishing a painted stand also, sanding it. I have allways sanded things, more work from what I understand. But I'm wierd and think more work =better finish. The one I'm sanding is painted white, its taking awhile! good luck with yours! keep before and after pics, its nice to see what it was when your finished
