Why not simply put a dark foam filter screen over the holes??

quite a bit

If you use a black semi corse 1/2" filter foam it should block a considerable amount if not almost all of it and still give you decent air flow

This may work provided the holes dont have fans in them

putting a blow hole with fan on the top but covering it with a peice of wood slightly larger than the whole and mounted on little legs so that the fan can still get air through the four sides an option ?

The area in the stand off must equal or exceed the area of the fan opening and all will be well
So if the space between the fan and the light block is 1" and the fan is a 4" biquet. the fan = 16 sq" the area around would need to equal that. so 1" would work 1" x 4"+4"+4"+4" =16"

What about the plastic vents they put in the sides of houses? They are slotted and would block out alot of the light ya can get them in 2 or 4 inch I think at Lowes. Simply drill the correct hole and slide the vents in?
