Painting tank and stand?

I am considering painting my tank, stand and canopy black. It is staind now but worn. I am concerned with fumes, painting or staining with coral and fish in the tank. I am betting someone has done this without harming their system.

with plenty of ventilation it could be done. i would also cover the open areas with wet towels to catch any particulates that are in the air before getting into the tank. running loads of carbon during the process would also not be that bad of an idea.
