Oh, and by all means spray paint it outside if you are able to.

I taped off the tank yesterday, and gave it 2 light coats using spray. I expect to have to give it 2 more or so until I get the coverage I'm looking for. I used glossy. I hope once light is shining over the tank it won't provide a bad glare.

So far, no runs.

Sounds good. Of course we will require the obligatory picture when you have finished it.

Read instuctions real good on recoatting. Some say recout within an hour or after a couple days.If you do it sooner it can ruin the fish and you would need to refinish it(can make it crinkle up).

Good advice - I'll check the instructions. I would hate to make a mistake at this point, and make my son have to scrape it all off to start over.

I am now searching for a stand. I want something unique, not typically seen with stands. We have a local art scene in Greenville. I may go visit a lady that customizes furniture, and see what she has to offer.

And the spending begins...

Good luck with it. A lot you can do creatively with a 55 tank as far as the stand is concerned. You gotta post pics of it though!

On glass it doesn't matter if you use flat or glossy... it all is going to look the same in the end from the viewing side) I have done it both ways and prefer to spray it on... when i rolled it it took abit longer than than it did for me to spray it... I take it you got the 55 from Allison

painting the back of tank

for my new tank I painted the back of the tank with frosted glass paint from micheal craft it looks much nicer than black in my humble opion, reflect the light from the metal h lights well and give the effect of the water extending beyond the tank two coats hide all of the plumbing as well.
