Newb questions to DIY FUGE

Hey, i have some newb questions for building my own fuge. i have a 10 gal nano right now and as of yesterday, my dad and i purchased a 65 gal. i have a 37gal tank to use for the sump/refugium and i've been doin as much research as i can before i even attempt to do it. what i'm looking for it the equipment. how to figure out what i need and how much of it (ie: which skimmer, powerheads, return pumps) i'm tryin to keep this brief even though i see it adding up. so please refrain from the negative comments on aspects i may have left out; remember this is my first time guys. thanks for the help!

Welcome Eddy, The first step in planning a reef tank is to research, do you know what kind of coral, fish etc you want. Not all corals nee the same conditions so the best approach is to decide what you like and can reasonably expect to keep then design the tank around them

As Doug1 mentioned reshearch is the key.

Since you have a 65gal and a 37gal sump/fuge you will have to decide on a skimmer, we can only throw out ideas. Since your tank is less than 100gals, a HOB might work or even a skimmer rated up to 150gals would work as well. It comes down to $$ and how much you want to spend.

The 37gal sump you can baffle off and have a skimmer area, the main drain for the display, then some baffles a fuge area then the return area. Here's a good site to get more info on sumps/fuges.

But this all goes back as to what type of tank you will keep; FOWLR, mixed reef (softies/SPS/LPS), SPS only or ... Zoos and Ricordia's. After you make up your mind on the type of tank, then we can help you better with advise.

good luck
