New tank stand

Here a peek at my new tank stand. It is 38 inches tall by 32 inches wide by 22 inches deep. I still have wiring and a couple door to put on but it is mostly finished. The top compartment is for a water top off tank. I am leaving it open to the bottom to make access to the sump easy. The sump has a fold up door and is large enough to hold a 58 quart rubbermaid sump. Next DIY is a closed loop and a spray bar and a rock rack and .... ah hell. I have everything left to do except the stand.

The stand looks really nice! Sounds like you've got your setup pretty well planned out. Seems like there is always a dozen more projects to get started on doesn't it? Keep on Reefin!

don't do like I did and get one with the "feet" on it, make sure that your sump is flat on the bottom. The feet will eventually (within a few days) begin to split and crack under the weight of the seawater in the sump...

I got as flat a bottom tub as I could and then cut a styrafoam sheet to set it on to help spread the wieght more evenly over the bottom. The fuge has been decided upon and it will be another 58 quart tub with one central baffle. The flow will come in on the right(100% of the tanks overflow) into the first chamber containing about 3" of oolictic live sand and a couple large hunks of LR. The second chamber will have two powerheads to help tumble some cheato. It will also have some sand and what left of my rubble.

leak test on fuge is complete. No leaks. Fuge is a 58 quart tub run around 3/4 full at full flow. I still have to biuld my flow deflector to aim the flow horizontaly towards the oposite end than the outlet. 290gph should tumble chaeto quite nicely. I will also have about a 2" live sand bed in it as well as some LR rubble around the outlet end. I am still debating on wether to put in an eggcrate devider under the deflector. I think I will just so I don't wake up and find a big wad of algae clogging the outlet and a massive puddle in the livingroom.

The clear tubs are really quite clear. It looks hazy but you can read small print through both sides. Water distorts the view a bit cause it flexes the tub a little. Leak test is now at 24+ hours and no leaky leaky. I'll give it till tomorrow then drain it all and install it. With any luck I'll have it up and running this weekend.
