New Hood also!
I've built a plywood hood. it has a sheet of plywood. and 2x4s on the edges of the bottom, facing down. So if you flip it over it looks like an invered basket, only the sides are about two inches. It will have a variety of lights, including 250watts. I'm thinkin about just takin a sheet of aluminum and covering the inside with it, where the lights will go, is this a good idea, or should i buy reflecors. I'm getting the aluminum for free though!

Go for it. You'll have to do a little polishing though - well maybe a lot of polishing. Will you bend it like a spider reflector or just roll it in the hood?
good luck

I was thinkin about puttin it on flat, because there will be 4 flourescent bulbs, but i was gonna take some small peices and kinda make a reflector out of it for the hallides, whadda u think? If i have HQI double ended bulbs, how do i make reflectors for that, can those bulbs go parralel to the tank? It's a 120g, dimensions of tank 60"x18"x24"deep. Dimensions of hood= 54"x16"wide x 2"deep on the sides. Thanks!

Should i bend it at angles, or make the entire reflector for each halide curved, no angles?

i would just keep it flat. i would bend it down on the ends though. bend it on the outside of the tubes. as long as the light eventually gets down into the tank.

Even for the hallides? I shouldn't make a refletor bending down for each, and yep, im definitly gonna bend it down on the end. Oh, another question, how far apart do 2 96 watt actintics need to be from burning eachother, can they even do that?

Well, its been running for about a week, biggest problem i've seen is that its too shallow. THe sides are only 2" high/tall, so alot of the light escapes. But i'm gonna put aluminum down over the sides in flaps to reduce the light loss.

I'm gonna try tomorrow! The aluminum sheets coming down the sides and back aren't finished. Probably a couple more weeks. But thanks for the interest. How are all your predator tanks going?
