New and improved invisible rock lift : )
Its really not any more functional than my previous ones but it is cleaner looking. : )
I can also make it this way a lot faster than the old way due to easier measuring of pieces than with pvc AND i bought a new grinder...my old one bogged down shaping the teeth on the rods and it took forever
check it out
here is my ebay auction for it.
http://cgi.ebay.com/Invisible-Live-R...QQcmdZViewItem
I think its ok for me to place that link here as i am just as happy to help anyone build one on their own if they want any details Im not selling them to get rich and famous......im just passing the time playing Mr Mom with my 5 month old. : )
FWIW, your looking at roughly $30 in acrylic alone if you buy it in bulk

OK, just be a real pain.
have you thought about making them moveable? not sure if it is even worth it, but it could make more complex shapes possible. you could have the poles slide along the grid.

ACtually, they ARE "moveable", or REMOVABLE i should say. The racks begin with seriously TWICE as many rods as are really necesssary(+/- depending on the size of your rock of course). Then when you go to stack your first layer of rock on them you simply remove the ones that arent needed by lifting them out of their sockets. I set them up so you begin with 100% covering the floor of your aquarium minus about 3 1/2 inches clearance in front. Fropm that point you can shape your reef however you like by simply pulling the rods out to shape the desired footprint. THEN, you have the option in the future of putting them back for new aquascaping ideas.
The rods simply sit in their holes.......they are not glued, nor do they need to be.

Awesome idea!!! Are you still making these? The 180 I am going to be setting up is 72 X 24...how much would one be for that size?
Thanks!

I fully agree.
It costs money to do a patent search and to obtain the patent. If you need me to float you some cash let me know. I think the entire process cost about $10k.

I appreciate the ideas guys and the offer 3-90's. I dont need the money if i thought it was viable to do so and i really dont think there is anything to patent, as i could think of a hundred things off of the top of my head that could be modified in order to duplicate it without any patent infringements. I have plenty of orders right now to make it worht my while and now that Carver is getting closer to being able to take to a babysitter, i will be doing my typical bread and butter which is charging a ton of money to tell people to "cast over there". lol Ok, there might be a little more to it than that but you get the picture. : )

Coralline will eventually grow on them...they are out of the light so it doesnt grow onall of them and takes a long long time in a healthy tank to cover them up. Even with coralline on them they are hard to see as o0nly half of the rods you see in the lifts are actually used. They are much smaller than pvc and dont stand out either way. even if you used a bunch of half inch pvc the circumference is still quite a bit larger than these 3/4" OD rods. Ive seen people use fiberglass as well that is smaller but it still stands out way more.
