From all the Beckett style skimmers I have seen, the Beckett feeds into a large reaction box under the skimmer with an angled plate to deflect bubbles on the outflow, as well as having a gated out put.

why?

i have a ventrui driven skimmer on my 125g and i can easily overskim the tank. with it properly adjusted i can rid the tank of algae in a couple of weeks or so after an algae bloom.

i get these algae blooms after i go on vacation for a week and i turn the skimmer down so that the person i have coming over to take care of the tank does not have to worry about salinity problems along with the other stuff.

i think any air delivery system will make an effecient skimmer. it is knowing how to adjust a skimmer that is the hard part.

well mine doesnt skimm well, so i must be doing something wrong.......
i read somewhere that skimmers need some back pressure to opperate correctly, but i dont remember witch skimmer or if all do.........my return pipes are thin wall 3/4 PVC and i get good flow from one but a trickle from the other, unless i partialy block the good one .......then they both do good for a minute or two then the water level in hte skimmer drops.........i know the pump is way more than enough (little giant 4-mdq-s) so wht do i do please help it hasent removed anything in over two weeks

yea clogged air inlets can be a problem. i actually have my venturi valve force fed using an air pump to keep salt creep from clogging it.

the hardest part about skimmers is getting the water level high enough in the skimmer. with two outlet tubes like that if the skimmer is not perfectly level then one would always drain more water than the other. this is not that big of a deal.

also depending on the age of the tank, LR and SB there may not be much skimmate produced.
