I am still toying with ideas for my lighting. I was thinking about going this way, if this is a bad choice, or it cant be done please dont be afraid to speak or opinions and thoughts.

This is what i was thinking about doing. the lid on my canopy can slide back and completely lift off of the canopy. So with this in mind, and do really want to go with the MH lights. Completely remove the lid for the canopy, and buy 2 250w HQI MH pendants, and suspend them from the ceiling. Having one with a 10k and the other with a 15 or 20k for the actinic look. is this possible? Or i was even thinking cutting the squares in the lid for the pendants and some how attachin the pendants to the lid. I have seen some nice low profile MH pendants out there that are really affordable and would probably cost me about the same if i went with the 440w of VHO retro. I will post a few links to the pendants later so you can look at and tell me if you feel it is worth it or not.

That is totally possible... I did that on my 40. The problem is that it become a severe hinderance when it come to failthfull maintenance on the tank. It is such a drag to break all that stuff down to scrapcoraline and blast rocks off.

Why not just do away with the canopy all together and just hang that.

Well... just to give you all an update. The skimmer has been ordered and should be shipping out on Tuesday. As for the pumps, Andy has really sold me on the Blue Line HD40 so thats my skimmer pump. T2 for my return. and a T3 for my for my closed loop. so until i get the 2 pumps and skimmer here i cant do much of anything. when skimmer shows up i will post photos.

I still am wondering if that MH/T5 HO combo is a good fixture

48 inch VHO Metal Halide Hood light Aquarium 250 HQI

This is the 250 watt version of what I have plus HQI. I think the mogul base MH are just as good as the HQI and are cheaper. I would not get the PC fixtures I would get the VHO bulbs and the mogul bases. I would also run 20K MH and 50/50 (or 1-50/50 and 1-pure actinic)VHOs and run the MHs almost all day long. I think that will be my next bulb combo after I get my photo period up as high as I can and after I get a chiller and Blah Blah Blah. But It will give you really good color and the daylight half of the VHOs will give you some good light to see with. Your tank is shallow enough that you wont have to worry about the PAR loss with the 20K bulbs over the 14K or 10K. You wont really have too bad of heat issues either being that they are only 250 watt bulbs. Nothing a small fan wont fix.

That is just my opinion and you should do some research on what you like to see. You may like the color rendering of the 15K bulbs better or you may not like actinics and get full daylight and 6500 MH.

They are an online store only. They custom make them after you order them. They will pretty much make them however you want to. Email them and ask them for their number and they will send it to you then you can call them and see what they can do for you. Their name is Aquarium Lights they have great customer service. When they shipped them to me they included extra bulbs for everything and 2 of my PCs were boken in shipping and I called them and told them and they just shipped 2 new bulbs no questions asked.
