I keep hearing it's for spawning(that they had good result).I do remember15 years ago you herd that if you use red light, the fish and others don't see red(so thats for looking at them)I guess like night vison.

spawning is based on the lunar cycle, not the fact that there is a light on at night. as the moon changes phase its intensity changes. unless you have a controller on your "moonlight" it is doing nothing more than being a night light to keep your critters up all night.

Well, I couldn't resist. I made a set of moonlights by way of these plans. I also used the LDS's from Radio Shack. The lights I used are the 5mm Blue LED pn 276-316. The wavelength was a little lower than recommended, but I think they look cool anyway. The resistors are 100's instead of 150's, either way they worked fine. I used a adjustable power supply that varies from 3volts to 15volts DC. I have it set at 6 volts and it has a nice glow to it. You can set it to 4.5 to dim it. I will post pictures tomorrow.

On top of that, this is in my 29gal FW tank.
