looking for semi-permanent adhesive

Hello all -

I'm trying to find something that will secure a plate/holder to the side of my sump. I've tried aquarium sealant and it's not secure enough. Didn't want to go with super glue, as it's too permanent and I may need/want to move it. Anyone know of some other adhesive that might work? It's going to hold a fairly light float valve that will control my Litermeter.

thanks,
Chris

I would try RTV silicone. It will peel off if you work on it. The only thing is that you need to have everything dry to apply it.

Can you glue it to one of those algae cleaning magnets? The float valve glued to the magnet on the inside, the outside magnet would hold it in place. Would be adjustable too.

along the same lines as RWD. super idea Bob!! have you ever taken apart a computer HD before? they have wicked strong magnets in there. you could encase them in epoxy and use those. they are much smaller and stronger than the algae magnets.

The other amazing magnets I have seen are called cow magnets. We live far away from any cows so I am not sure why they are called that.

These are about a buck each if you have some sort of nerd supply store that has electronics parts.

Have you thought of epoxying some extra suction cups and making a mount that way?

What sort of epoxy were you thinking of? Most that I've used or seen are really permanent. I tried using suction cups with silacone adhesive, they just slip over time.

I'm interested in looking for some magnets, sounds like a good idea.

Another thing I could try is to mount the float to one of the 'legs' I have created with PVC. The legs hold up a drip tray that I stick a bag of charcoal every now and then.
