I think this acrylic fabrication course is going to be pretty cool personally.

Hey wade...have you ever taken one of their courses before? Looks like 225 to build a Calc Reactor and moreover, learn how to work with acrylic.... Let me know if you have and what you thought of the course.

I honestly have not, although I personally knew the last instructor (whos manual is being used this time as well). I have heard wonderful things about the course though. I would say its definitely worth it if you want to learn how to make acrylic items (and what is more, $150 for the reactor they are making... easily modified into a calcium reactor is cheap!)...

Frank, several of us staffers and resident answerman have been through the Coral Bio class that Eric B did a few years back, it was intense, more like a college level crash course than an advance hobbiest format. My main gripe is that they used an obscure and hard to get text , personally I thought Eric could and should have used his then new book as the text, the infos there. All in all that was a great class. The DIY classes look good as well, they didnt have those back then

Hey Wade, if you build that, can you get pics of the project as it goes along , than after completion an evaluation of the unit and how it works

I asked about pictures, and the instructor has taken pictures along the way as he created the reactor. However, he says they are specific to the course and will not share them. (Makes sense as he has to make this worth his time and effort, if he let the plans and pictures out, anyone could then make it who knew how.)

As for me, I am taking the course, but only to learn how to make acrylic gadgets, I'm not building the reactor itself.

Wade, OK I thought you were building the project. I can see where he wouldn't want to release pics tho it's not like there aren't plans out there on the internet

It would not be hard to "copy" from that pix, if one were handy with (acrylic)their hands.

Seems like a lot of work for a kalk reactor. And for a calicum reactor ?? But for working with acrylic - looks like it'll work. The hardest thing to make are the flanges - if you don't have a pattern. But looking at it, the tube can be just glued down to the flat piece then routed out, where as I have the tube sitting in a hole in the top part of the unit.

The kalk reactor that I made/make is just a simple 6" tube with 2 Ph's hanging off either side for recirculating the kalk mixture.

I'm not sure I understand the center tube assembly, I am assuming that that takes the place of the eggcrate with fiberglass screening used to support the reactor media off the bottom, allowing a space for the recirculating pump to push water in and up through the media
