In wall solution.

All-

When I move into the new place (about 6 months), I will have a basement which I plan to finish. I want to put my 120 in a wall with the fish room behind it.

I have an AGA and it has the black plastic trim all the way around the tank.

What do you think is the best (and most aesthetically pleasing) way to join the wall to the tank? Anyone have experience with this?

I want to do the framed look, but I'm worried about being able to see the space and black plastic between the wood trim and the tank if the trim is attached to the wall.

Eventually, I plan on building (or having one built) a large l-shape acrylic tank down there, but for now, I'm keeping my 120.

Jeff

there are two ways of doing this that i can think of:

1. set the tank so it is behind the drywall. this way the plastic rim will not be a problem. you will need some kind of edging to cover the edges of the drywall. this edging will need to come to the glass anyway so whether or not the plasic rim is there is irrelevant.

2. put the tank so that the plastic rim is flush with the drywall. you wil have to use a much wider trim piece to cover the plastic rim. you can easily router the inside part of the trim so that it fits perfectly along the wall and then sets in to meet the aquarium on all sides.

i do not think the plastic rim will be a problem.

i have not done a true in-wall, but my wifes tank is inset in its stand so that the trim disappears. also her refug/species tank is flush mounted in the stand.

That's what I was planning, but I just have to figure a way to attach it to the drywall and come flush to the tank. I guess I'll just have to do an L-shaped piece of trim. I think I'm going to use green board around the tank instead of regular drywall.
