Ice Cap Fans too much?

I just bought a couple of these for my canopy.

Now I just need to make a wiring harness for my wall wart I have lying around.

Interesting. I know Ice Cap fans have a coating on them to resist salt water corrosion. I wonder how long these fans would last. Keep up updated!

Would a silicon spray on the electrical connections be bad for the fish. Unless the pins are gold plated it seems like that would be the weak link.

My used tank came with two fans and the connectors were way corroded so I was going to use some Amp .060 pins and sockets to replace those tin plated ones on mine. These pins are laying around from an old R and D project.

Given the price though it might be easier to just chuck what I have.

Also, I read a lot of stuff on fans but have two holes on each end of the canopy and plan to do one gozinta and one goesouta.

Instead of silicone spray, what about silicone caulk? Or that dielectric grease from the auto parts store. It's used on electrical connections that get wet. Another option is to use that heat shrink tubing (can't think of the name right now).

I know a lot of people on other boards have used other plain (non-thermal control) PC fans with no problems. No one seems to use anything special for the salt. I think as long as they are blowing into the canopy, they should be okay.
Most popular seem to be the Orion and Radio Shack fans. I saw a guy on eBay selling this and another one here that gave me the idea to make my own.
