If you have any experience I would say build it. It will be quite a pain. I built almost my whole set up and I saved a ton of money but I put A LOT of time into it.
If you know you can do it go for it. Just remember if you mess up on anything stuctrualy you are going to have a huge problem. When I built my stand I ended up making it to weak and I had to drain it back and put more bracing.
Also be sure you know how to make your tank sturdy enough to handle the pressure. You will need quite a few braces on top.

Good Luck

If I might recommend something.

IF you are building a glass tank...have the glass cutter do the holes and temper it. Just be sure you be as specific as possible as to where you want the holes drilled, once done, well, you know.
