How Do I Design This????????

I want to design a system that will kick in in case of a power outage. What I have thought of is using maybe 2 Deep Cell marine batteries hooked up to an inverter. A mag12 and a 300 watt heater will be plugged into the inverter. I want a relay system that plugs into a wall outlet. I want a relay hooked up to one of the power wires to the inverter. When the power goes out I want the relay to open the power to the inverter so that the pump and heater kick on. When the power goes on the pump goes off. I will set the heater lower than normal temp. so it won't kick on unless the power is off for an extened period of time. This system is the product of my recent tank crash. I didn't know the outlet kicked off. I lost a total of 5 fish.
Can anyone help me design the relay system??

Wharyat may be able to help. you have it all drawn out right. i just do not know which relay to tell you to get. should be a pretty standard relay with a high 120v side and a low12v side.

That one in the website is nice but he used float switches. I want to conect it to an outlet so when the power goes out it switches on automatically. I don't want the stuff to run all the time just when the the power goes out.

you might chech this link out it is an automatic transfer switch that connects from one source to the other automatically. these are not that expensive compared to losing what you have lost. we sell these where i work here in elkhart indiana I can check to see what my cost would be for you then i would sell it to you at that price plus shipping

here is one on ebay

I was thinking of a deep cell marine battery. Maybe using two. If anyone has any opinions on what battery to use I am all ears. Thanks for the relay link. I will have to order one.

I was reading that link on the "other" site and it was saying I should use a 115 V inverter. I found one for $36 for a 110 V 400 W 800W peak one. It was saying 110V will require more power. Anyone have an opinion on that as well??

Rugar,
I thought about a transfer switch but then that would make the secondary heater and the pump on all the time. My pump for the new tank will be a Dart pump. I was going to use a smaller pump so it doesn't eat up as much juice. The secondary pump will only kick on when the power goes out. So basically the pump will probably never get ran unless I test it.
