Frag rack plans?
Guys,
Looking for a DIY plan for a frag rack. I was going to go ultra simple and use some extra plastic eggcrate and suspend it with fishing line, but ran into a problem - with an acrylic tank and it's top, there's no easy way to attach it to a edge, plus wanted to get it to be against the side of the tank with the back of the rack, again with the top of the acrylic tank, that doesn't seem doable.
Any ideas?
thanks,
Chris

use PVC pipe for the legs. that is what most people do. make a table using the eggcrate and use PVC for legs.

You can also just cut pieces of eggcrate for the legs and glue together for free standing racks. You could get more elaborate with this and add several stair-step shelves to take advantage of differant levels of the tank.

Cool! That would definitely do well for me. How'd you get the suction cups to stay? Epoxy or something?
Thanks!

The suction cops have little button locks on them Tim just drilled some holes a little smaller than the buttons and the pushed the button through, If you look at the front shot you can see the buttons and from the back you can see through them.

Sorry - meant how do you keep it attached to the wall? I've had problems keeping the suction. But that's another good idea about the holes.
thanks again,
Chris

Yup! I have just a piece of eggcrate that fits the dimensions of my tank, 2" wide x 17._". A pair of large suction cups and the holders for a heater hold my eggcrate shelf across the tank.
Same old clean glass and good luck ... for me replacing the cups [cleaning suction, cleaning glass, move it just a little] every month or two has helped me avoid having it crash down on things.

I have heard of people using a little superglue between the glass and the suction cup. One the super glue dries it is stuck there for good, but you should be able to razor blade it off when you are done with it. That might ruin the suction cups but it's not like they are super expensive. I thought I remember people using silicone too for this purpose, just wondering about the curing underwater. Maybe since so little would be needed it wouldn't harm anything.

silicone doesnt dry inside a suction cup underwater in my experience trying to get things like powerheads and heaters to stay in place.
