Flanges, bulkheads, and spacing

Is 3" enough room to get most bulkhead fittings into? I am referring to DIY bulkheads using Schedule 80 fittings to make my own bulkheads. Much like the "bulkheads" you see on overflow boxes. The largest diameter I am worried about right now would be 1 1/2" PVC pipe and trying to determine what the minimum amount of room I can allow to make sure the fittings will fit. I think 3" should be plenty but would like other opinions as well.

I asked on RC about flange thickness and I think I have settled on 1/2" thick flanges on what I am doing. But, how wide should they be? Or does it depend on what I am using the flange for? Is there a "standard" width that would allow you to do just about anything you want to do?

If you look at the red box at the bottom, trying to figure out how much room would be a "minimum" to allow there and still be able to get anything up to 1 1/2" plumbing through that lip.

Everywhere there is a transition, there will be a flange for assembly/disassembly and trying to determine how wide they need to be. I think a 2" wide flange will give me plenty of room to bond 1/4" tubing to, then have room for an o-ring, then bolts/nuts and still enough to keep the holes from splitting out the edge or do I need to make them wider?

Any thoughts/comments/suggestions are requested and welcome.

Let's say you were building a square box that was 8" square. It is going to sit on top of a larger box much like the drawing is. How much larger does the base box need to be to allow 1 1/2" plumbing to go in between the wall of the smaller box and the outside of the larger box? I need to make a new drawing.

What is the minimum you would make the red section to be able to plumb a 1 1/2" line through it? Either using "normal" bulkheads or a DIY bulkhead? The black will be "walls" that you can't cut into. The red area is what I am concerned with. I believe that 3" should be sufficient but I am not positive so I am asking.

If you are going to use the DIY version (1.5" electrical fittings) you will need a hole that is a tad smaller than 1 3/4" (thinkin 1 5/8" would be perfect), and the anser is yes, 3" would be plenty.

Anybody know what size flange is on a 1.5" bulkhead?

And, what about the flanges? I think that got lost in the question but how wide is a typical flange on a flange fitting? If I take two 12" sections of pipe, make a flange for them, how wide should the flange be in order to get the seal, the bolts/nuts, the tubing, all of it connected? Is 2" enough or does it need to be wider?

I figured it all out. Not the dimensions of parts but how much room I was going to leave to be able to get plumbing into it.
