Duel Tank Stand

Hi,

My name is John and I am a hobby fish keeper in Australia. I have just started a project of building a stand for my 6 foot and 5 foot tanks. Once this is complete I will design a hood for it to cover everything except the front glass of both tanks!

The estimated load on the stand will be about 1.5 tones. I have posted all of this under the project page on my blog:

blog.ausalive.com

Images of what I plan to do are also there too.

My question is what size steel do I need (30x30x2 mm RHS ?) and are there any other special considerations I need to make?

Thanks everyone for your support!

Re: Tank design

Hi,

Sorry, the direct link for the pictures is:

--->blog.ausalive.com/projects/fish-tank-stand/

I would like some advice from people who have built metal tank stands before as this is my first time doing it.

Please visit the above link for what I am planning to do. What is the best way to go about building the stand?

The thickness and size of the metal will be directly related to the span between supports. I could build a pretty strong stand with 1/4" angle stock... but it depends on how you build it So maybe if you posted some ideas of your potential stand designed, we could give you a better idea or what materials to use

Re: Design

Hi,

Yeah I have drawn up some designs in the link in the previous post.

The span will be 6 foot - I do not want to have a support strut in the middle.

Please look at the pictures on my blog and tell me what you think and any things that could be improved!
