Doh..now I find out not recommended

So I am gluing away my CLS and ready to order a Mag 7 like some guy did in some thread. I went to Marine Depot's website and they say the Mag pumps are not recommended for external use.

I have a 55 so only need maybe 900 gph since the SCWD will suck that down to 700 or so.

Seems like they have inexpensive pumps like the Eheim or the fancy Jaccuzi spec things for 300 bucks with no middle ground. Can anyone recommend something around 900 gph for under a hundred bucks that is reliable and okay to use externally? Hopefully it will have a 3/4" outlet as all my pipe is 3/4". If worse comes to worse I can go larger, and save all the 3/4" stuff for the 29g.

If the mag can't be used externaly it is new to me, I plan to make mine external this weekend. I have always seen them advertised as external or internal.

Thanks Whiskey,

I posted a thread someplace about whether or not to have a sump and got a few replies to avoid the mag with the link showing not recommended for external use.

I just went to the Marine Depot site and there is no warning now.

That Mag 7 is just perfect to plug into the big ol contraption I am gluing away on.

i have run Mags externally for years without any problems. they do need to be cleaned a lot more often when they are run externally, but other than that not a big deal. if not cleaned out 2 or 3 times a year they will warp and sieze up permanently due to calcium carbonate buildup in the volute and impellor area. this happens more when used externally because air does not dissipate the heat as well as water does. as we all know the more heat the more likely calcium carbonate will build up there. which in turn builds up more heat due to friction. just a never ending cycle.
