The main reason I like how mine is setup, is I can control exactly how much flow goes through the fuge

I'm still brand new at this so not sure how much my input means but I use a 30 gal long as my sump and i do it refuge--return----skimmer while from reading other forums I was sure to make my return the biggest compartment

Welcome to TRT Dnazta!!! Do you have your drain line split for the way you have it set up?

Although I follow the skimmer, return, fuge pattern mine is a little different as my refugium is a stand alone acrylic box that I built with 2 drains into teh return section. I could have fed it with a power head as suggested, but instead I T-d off the drain line and used a ball valve to control the amount of flow going to the skimmer and the fuge at the same time.

As you can see there are many ways to accomplish the same thing.

I split my drain line also and slowed the flow down to the fuge with a ball valve also

As I stated I am very new to the reef keeping but I've done more than my fair share of reading and taken alot of time just to get water in the tank. Also I've done this with very little budget. Its just finally great to see something coming out of my months of reading and hard work. I finally added my first fish today just to get some life in the tank besides the live rock and sand. And tommorrow my hermitcrabs snails and starfish will be here.

Yes, Eventually I'm going to try and upgrade to a bigger sump and in doing so will switch back to the skimmer-return-fuge. But had the return been bigger I doubt I would have changed it. On the other hand I don't really mind it this way either, the only problem I have now is controlling the water movement through the fuge which can cause my chaeto to end up in my return area sometimes.
