diy sump

hey everyone!


does anyone have any simple designs for a 10gal sump?im thinking that i dont want a refugium, because then i would have to keep a light over it, so please if anyone has an links or some advice it would be greatly appreciated!

what size tank will this be put on? what kind of flow are you looking to put through it. depending on the flow you prolly do not need to do anyting at all to the 10g. what do you want to place in the 10g, or are you just looking for added volume. i am talking about heaters, skimmers, not critters.

thanks for the reply, this 10gal sump is for my 30gal cube, and for now im just planning on keeping my skimmer, and heater in there. im going to make a refugium area but im not going to put anything in just yet, becuase im not sure if i want to have a light on allt he time in my stand, so maybe in the future i can always add some sand/lr/algea, and about the flow, im going to add a CPR overflow that pumps 300gph, and a mag 5 pump for the return.

that sounds like a plan right there. i do not think you could ever really put a refuge in there without running into flow problems and size limitations. i am not that impressed with refuges right now anyway.

the best thing to so is put the drain from the overflow and the skimmer on one side and the pump for the return on the other. just have the heater hanging out in between. for the drain you may want to put submerge the pipe a little in the sump and add put a little sock around the end to keep the bubbles from making it into the sump. make sure to clean the sock at least once a week so as not to release phosphates back into the system. you can try it without the sock, some sumps need it others do not. this trick also works on the output for the skimmer.
