Tell me about it! That's why I didn't glue it together, was the fiddling and not knowing if it would work or not. Now I am glad I didn't.

I pulled the pump off my Coralife 120 skimmer that is running on my 90. Was going to try it on this one hoping it would slow the water down. Physically, they are the same pump. I can't see any difference at all between the two pumps. Means it wouldn't make any difference. I am going to look today and see if I have another ball valve I could use on the input to slow the water down, and see if that is the issue. As it is now, I can't control the water flow, only the drain flow. If I limit the drain, it simply overflows. Luckily, when it overflows, the water just runs back down into the tank instead of splattering all over the carpet.

This morning the collection cup was full of water (from overflowing the skimmer). Now, it has only leaked down about 1/4" or so. That tells me, even more, that the fittings aren't the issue, that its a flow issue, too much flow.

Cool. Ball valve should solve that!

Update. The apartment up and over from me burned today and now my apartment smells like smoke. No progress until I can breathe in here again. I am hoping it will become tolerable sometime tonight with fans blowing all over the place.

Guess you need to stop tossing flaming DIY skimmer parts out your window.

You just can't seem to catch a break at all Randy.

Is everything else okay despite the smoke inhalation?

Yeah, everything is fine. It smelled like smoke last night but most of the smell is gone now. Just a faint smell of smoke left. Should be gone by tonight. At least I hope it is.

It wouldn't be the first thing I ever threw out a window.

Well it is night now, is the smell gone? I sure hope so, as that is one smell I really cannot stand myself.

For the most part it is.

I have the skimmer running again, I plugged it up and said "Lets see what happens in 2 or 3 days with it running the way it is". That translates to "I am too lazy to find the ball valve and adjust it, lets get it running"

I hate, and I truly mean I HATE, ball valves. I can't get it adjusted with the ball valves (I added one to the pump). Tomorrow, I will get some gate valves and not fight this insanity.

I almost forgot, I found a source for a 6"x4" coupling for the PVC pipe I have. The 4" version will get the bugs worked out to go on one of my tanks, probably the 120 since it won't fit under the 90. Then a 6" version built for the other tank. Prototype drawing coming up shortly.
