diy skimmer

does any one know if the main body of a skimmer has to be round , the reason i ask is i've aquired some 6'x6'x1/4 policarbonate square tube at work and would like to have a go at making this . but obviously out of square

It could defintaley work. The thing is that round is better because bubbles tend to collect and form larger bubbles in the corners. I know that there are some skimmers out there that are square and do work good, example is the bac pak skimmers. I think the aqua c urchin and remora are also square. So have a go!

thanks for that , i've just realised how stupid i really am at the moment i use a deltec mce 600 skimmer and guess what , it's made from flat sheet so i've answered my own question really

you just need to make sure bubbles do not build up and then flush themselves out through the collection cup.
