DIY Shelf ideas?
I am needing to put in my CLS my hubby and I made, but need an idea to set my pump on. We were setting it up on the glass support above the tank, but was told not to have the pump above the water line. Give me some easy ideas to solve my problem.

Can you re-plumb it down to underneath the tank in the stand?

We could I just don't want to lose a lot of flow and I worry about siphoning happening when I'm away. Is that a problem? It would have to all be over the back of the tank. Are you talking about putting it in the sump?

You don't need to run it in sump, but down next to it would be ok. I didn't think about the head loss on the pump, sorry. If it is a true closed loop sytem, no worries about siphon. The system constantly has water in it and if the power goes out where would the water have to go since it's a completely closed system?
The big box hardware stores sell nice looking brackets and pre-fab shelf boards in different sizes and colors. Maybe you have some room next to the tank halfway down? Make sure it's attatched to a stud or appropriate fastener for the weight.
Just some ideas, hope they help.

the only head loss you would have if it stays a CLS is friction due to the pipes and fittings themselves. there will not be any head loss due to gravity since the system is closed.

make sure you use ballvalves and unions in order to disconnect the pump for any reason. put the ballvalves as close to the pump as possible to minimize the water dripping when you do disconnect it

I put a shelf right behind the tank, it is about 10 inches from the top.
