DIY LED Lighting

One day while searching the net for LED Tank lights I found a very good DIY LED lighting system...I should have booked marked it....I have been searching all day all possible combos but can not find it.

So my question is does anyone here have any DIY LED tank lighting information to share with me?

TIA!

it is not super easy to do long term, from what i have read. the problem has to do with the powering circuit for the bulb banks. it is nice and easy to just wire them up and they work, the problem comes after the first bulb burns out. then they start cascading because of overdriving. getting a circuit designed that will keep the voltages constant for all bulbs even if one goes out seems to be the biggest problem with using LED lighting for aquariums.

the bulbs do not seem to be as long lasting as advertised. how many LED traffic lights do you see that do not have any burned out bulbs in them?

reef central has a HUGE write up as does nano-reefs.com

It seems very very complex. Although I am still looking into it. One of the things i want to do though is make a controller so that it simulates natural sunrise and sunset and then the lunar cycle.

but right now I have a major budget crunch so this is a dream of the future

I found the RC thread, its so big it split into two. I am going to attempt to build it just like the thread originator did since it was for the same size tank as mine. I think it will pay for itself due to the very long life of the led bulbs 11+ years.

I'm probably going to attempt this in 6 weeks or so.

I'm just doing the research and looking for a way to have a programmable dimmer.
