Anyone have any pics or feedback about their educators?

I have a mag 12 I am going to use on a CLS. My tank is 2 ft tall and the pump will sit even with the bottom of my tank (so 2 ft head). Do you think I should use these or not?

One more question, my mag pump says to double the output size for maximum flow...so I should go from 3/4" to 1 1/2" right? If so, what size eductors should be used?

thanx,

Jay

a Mag 12 is barely powerfull enough to power one eductor properly. i would go with the 3/8" nozzled one. it will give you some decent results.

what Mag is saying is that if you want the maximum flow at 0' of head go with as big of a pipe as possible immediately after the outlet.

I know the eductor is working cause it gets a swirl of water every once and a while above one of the holes. But, the hole I made in the return (thats in the overflow) is squirting water out of it, is this suppose to happen? Also, when the return pump is turned off the eductors pulls more water out of the tank than when there were none. Is this normal also? Pic of the eductor...

i am guessing you have an anti siphon hole in the return in the overflow, correct? since an eductor creates so much back pressur the water is finding the path of least resistance. it has found you hole and is squirting out of it.

since the eductor has a small hole at the other end when a back siphon is going, the water has a fair amount of velocity to it. that previous said hole is now acting like a venturi valve and sucking air in, but not fast enough to kill the siphon.

you will prolly need to block off the hole in the overflow and make another one just above the eductor inside the tank.

it sounds like everything is behaving properly.

Viv, is your attatched to locline? If so did you purchase the adapters or does it fit into a standard fitting?

I just pushed the end onto the locline. Fit like a glove. I guess you could glue it on but there really isn't a need, it really stays on without any problems.

Now I have been pondering a very simple plan to make one of these. A piece of pvc with diagonal slots. And insert a loc-line nozzle into this.

Looks like this maybe? Sorry about the poor drawing, I don't have any 3D CAD software right now.

that should also work. i think you should make the exit nozzle for the eductor a bit longer. the longer nozzle allows more pull of the water through your slots.

By that I assume you are refering to the pvc/acrylic or whatever I can find to make it out of. Yeah, my plan was to be about twice the length of the loc-line with the pvc.

I made a test version with 1" pvc that has holes drilled around the outside. It seems to work pretty well. I am going to make the final version sometime this weekend. I will take some pics then.
