DIY Fan Mount
Well, I have been thinking of ways to get some more cooling into my system, and after seeing a couple of posts here about case fans, I decided to set one up myself. Since I don't have a canopy, I had to come up with some sort of mount. I had a perfect sized piece of 1/4" acrylic laying around, so a few zips with the dremel, and voila!
I ran them to this radioshack converter. It was pretty easy to wire them in paralell with this adaptaplug Y connector and two adaptaplug power leads.
The toughest part was cutting out the acrylic holes. I used a tungsten dremel cutting bit, but as you can see, it was a bit of a hack job. I may try to make another somewhat more aesthetically pleasing one at some point, but this works great, so prettying it up'll have to wait.

Is that blowing air in or sucking it out? You'll want to keep them really clean
The littl sander drom thingies for dremel should help pretty it up, but if it works good, what the heck Good Job

looks great!!
another idea would be to angle the fans slightly away from each other to form a V. this will allow more air flow across a greater amount of the waters surface area.

Yeah, I though that might help, but I was lazy and more excited to see how well it worked :-)

Well, the good news is that my tank is now consistently running 2 degrees cooler The fans blowing over the water help from evaporation, and the added bonus is that the fans blow directly onto the pc actinic hood, which keeps it much cooler. For the maybe $50 in parts and 2 hours of work, I'd call it a huge bargain.

Looks good,
I also use a fan in the summer , 10 inch to cool the tank , I have it blow across the sump. Cools very well.
