Question

DIY Adding a overflow without empting

I would like to add a sump and seems like the fail proof way to not have a overflow flood condition is to add over flow.

I dont have the means to empty all the water out of the tank ( 100 gallons ) I can get about 75 % of the water out with extra tanks and rubber made containers.

Has anyone attempted to do a drain / overflow in a tank without empting all the water ?

Figure the hardest part would be getting the overflow in and sealed.

2nd part : drilling the hole

How hard is it to cut the hole for the drain. Glass is 1/4"

Think i am going to try to find a company that can come out and drill the holes for me. While I am at it suppose i should do my CLS as well

Welcome to TRT, jhukcs!!!

i have drilled several tanks when full. though i would not do it on a tank with 1/4" glass though. i would nervous the whole time also. i would not recommend it.

i would just get a 100g Rubbermaid feeding trough to store the water while you do the drilling.

you also will not be able to add an acrylic overflow to the tank with water in it. silly cone does not cure properly when wet.
