Question

distilled water

I have a question about using distilled water. Is anyone out there using this or am I the only one? Everytime I used ro/di water I purchased from a store. "I know came straight from the sink in back right!!!" I would always get red slime algae when using this. I talked to a old time reef guy who said to stop using that junk (ro/di) water and use distilled. He said as long as the manufacture did not use copper vats it would be fine. I have been using distilled for 8 months with no algae problems and no fish deaths. What do you all think???

my guess is the store you were getting the RO/DI from has not changed their membrane in a very long time. or they were getting it out of the tap in the back room.

Check out this Seachem article. One of the items refers to the difference between RO, DI, Tap and Distilled.

Okay... I am a little confused but I think I understand. An RO unti itself is not suitable unless it is a RODI unit? IF you have an RODI unti then you are good to go??? Correct?

I think an RO unit is better than tap water but the addition of a DI cartridge makes it as good as it gets. If you are going to spend the money on RO, you might as well spend the few extra bucks a DI cartridge and canister costs.
