die, eggcrate, die!

Well, after throwing $35 worth of lucite and eggcrate into my dumpster in an attempt to cover my tank, I can finally claim victory!

I managed to finally cut/score (and snap) 2 (nearly) perfect pieces of eggcrate to work with my hinge and HOB equipment so I can lift my lighting housing/capony and open the top of the tank to feed/test the tank.

To all who fought with acrylic tops, live vicariously as I smash some scrap eggcrate...

(cue up Wagner's Ride of the Valkries)
SMASH! SMASH! SMASH!

(scary thing is I'm saving some scrap for that future problem that always seems to happen)

I was so pissed when, after shattering my last Dremel grinding wheel cutting eggcrate I grabbed the dikes and found that they worked a hundred times better. Oh well, not like I've done everything I want with eggcrate!

I found that I have the best success when I use needle- nosed pliers.

Simply "snap" the plastic off with a twist of the wrist.

The key is placing the pliers on the edge of the square AWAY from the bourndary piece you want.

Use a counter clockwise motion.

Have a beer first. You don't want to be "tight."

Good Luck

Oh, trust me, I have plenty of scrap to "play" wth now. Everytime I start a DIY project, my girlfriend loves to remind me about the amout of trips (and $) to Lowes with my eggcrate "incident".
