diamond bit for holes?

Does anyone know where I can get a drill bit to drill out holes in glass? I found an exellent deal on a 75 gallon. The LFS of course are trying to push their reef ready Oceanic tanks. But at $169 for glass top, tank, and stand....I can't pass that up!

I've see pics of Geoff's coast to coast and really like that setup. Is it a quiet setup or noisy?

Thanks!

Mike

yep, ebay is where i get all of my hole saws with shipping from China all of my saws came in under $20!!

so far you can not even tell my system is running. it is extremely quiet. this was the primary concern for this setup, silence. it took me a while to get the overflow side silent. the CLS side was never a problem. with the only pumps in the living area being Velocity T2's there is no sound from pumps. if you stand right next to the tank you can hear a very soft bubbling sound from the overflow.

i really like the Coast to Coast overflow. if the location of the tank was different, than i would have put the coast to coast overflow on the outside of the tank. this would have given me a lot more room for the livestock. it would have been impractacle for me to do this with the shape of the walls behind the tank.

Thanks for the replies! Found and ordered a 45mm hole saw today.

I'm going for silence as well. Can you direct me to a supplier for the Velocity T2 pump? I'm setting up a 75 gal. I plan on making a coast to coast overflow with 2 1" drain bulkheads.

I'm trying to locate a glass place here in Houston, TX that will cut the glass pieces that I need...but not having much luck.

Geoff, do you recommend making a glass overflow or acrylic? My tank is glass.

thanks!

i believe both MarineDepot and PremiumAquatics carry the Velocity pumps. They are now distributed by Blue Line pumps. i think MarineDepot still has them under Poseidon though, i believe they were 2 distributors ago.

i used acrylic for mine. you can use either.

Post a pic of your tank. i would like to get a mental image of what you are working with.

go to home depot, i just bought one for $8 and a dremel bit for $5. i drilled through my 10 gallon in about 10 minutes, patience is the key. i made a 5" by 2" rectangular hole in my side glass in about 45 minutes.

you can try a search on ReefCentral for my post for a how-to on cutting holes in glass tanks. I got my diamond grit hole saws from the Ebay seller from Hong Kong. Not difficult to do yourself. Good luck.
