CPR overflow vs. drilling

The aqualifter pump is designed to keep the siphon going and start it back up if there were a power outage. I have also heard of people running them right to a powerhead instead of using the aqualifter pump. Anyway I have never had a problem with the 5 of them that I have. I just take them off once every three months and cycle vinegar water through them to keep them clean.

Would prob go with a lifereef if I used another overflow. If I had to do it totally over again I would have them drilled.

I have two HOB overflows have been running for 1+years now with no flood. I'll get back to you on brand. The U-tubes that came with them have an air line running from the top. I connected those to a aqualifter and it keeps the air out and siphon on.

During the ice storm this winter, we were without power for a few days, then hit and miss with power. After 2 days without power the U-tubes lost siphon, but the aqualifters (one one each overflow) sucked all the air out within seconds and water was flowing again.

There are three things to remember: 1) keep your U-tubes cleaned out. 2) change the prefilter to the auqalifter. 3) keep your aqualifter return lines clean. They will all get clogged and dirty, especially if they are close to the lights like mine are.

BTW, I don't use any media in mine and long heaters will not fit. I do use floss pads every once in a while... The internal racks work good for that.
