Connecting a DIY Eductor to Loc-Line

Here it is... what do you think? How do I know if it working at full potential? I cut the barb fitting down so that it stops just before entering the coupler, but I wonder if I had left it full length if it would work better...???

Thanks for looking!

Oh yeah, I cut a 3/4" loc-line nozzle off so that the barb fitting screws right into the shortened nozzle.

Hey Geoff, your the brains behind this one. I just modified it to fit the loc-line.

looks very good!! what pump is powering it? i found that if the inside nozzle is to long it just does not pull as much water through it. how far below the waters surface is the eductor. i have to have mine down at least 4" to keep the eductor from pulling vortexes down from the waters surface.

if you want to see how effective it is working drop some food just above the eductor, it should get pulled in pretty quickly and shot out the larger nozzle.

I have a Velocity T3 with the output split with a Y fitting into (2) 1" flex hose lines connected to 3/4" loc-line. The pump is level with the bottom of my tank so no more than 24" of head pressure.

They are about 4"-5" below the surface. I finished the other one this morning and now have them both running. They are definitely pulling water in through the holes and there are now small waves all the way across my water surface. My tank is 48" long. Crap is flying everywhere!!!

I'm not sure if the extra piece of 3/4" pipe is helping any. I may just remove it to make it shorter.

Thanks for doing all the homework on this Geoff! I'm sure it will help my tank alot. I am still fighting HA and am thinking about replacing all my LR.

Where did you find the nozzle? What are they normally used for?

It is a regular loc-line 3/4" round nozzle:

I had to cut about 1/2 of it off for the barbed nozzle to screw into it. You have to be pretty precise in doing this because if you cut just a little too much off then the end is too big and the barbed nozzle won't screw into it. The best way is to cut it long and then grind or slowly cut it away until the barbed nozzle fits it just right.

do not rush into replacing the LR. with all of this added flow you have a much better chance of letting the LR cook itself in our system with the added flow.

Yeah well, I sure am getting tired of taking out each rock and scubbing it every other time I do a water change! I have a FOWHA tank! (fish only with hair algea)

Thanks for the encouragement.

I mean the barbed nozzle - that's not a loc-line piece is it?

Any local Lowes or Home Depot should carry them:
